Spiritual Skin Holiday Gift Ideas & 20% Off Sacred Designs – A New Paradigm of You is Here!

As we edge closer to the completion of 2012, thoughts turn to the seeds we are each planting to create the evolutionary leaps of transformation we desire, both personally and collectively. A new paradigm of experience knocks at the door for our embracing. And what lies beyond the threshold is a new realm of conscious creation.

Sacred tattoos have increasingly been on the rise with the shifts taking place, especially this year of 2012. I have seen both myself and many clients experience huge transformations, openings, empowerment, and freedom through the birthing of their “Spiritual Skin.”

I’ve been so proud of the courageous embracing these beautiful souls have gone through and LOVE the stories they share of how their lives have changed in powerful ways for the better after getting their sacred tattoos. SO BEAUTIFUL!

I got two very powerful portal/gateway beacon tattoos of my own this year and had some out-of-this-world experiences take place within and without, including even in tandem with direct Earth shifts at the time of their birthing. And I’ve continued to have amazing experiences with direct channeling and manifestations linked with the integration of their energies with mine.

2012 has really been an awakening and transmuting for many and I’ve been able to directly observe how the tattoo scene has evolved back into the sacred art form it originated as. I also have had direct experience of hearing how people’s ideas and judgments have been transformed. Big stuff and I LOVE this!

Everything is energy and the energy is what comes through intent-fully chosen tattoos. They simply embody magick. Not separate, not defining, and not altering of who you are at the core, but are an extension of your energy expressed through you so that others can feel who you are and see with new eyes a whole picture that exists. They also help to activate and empower more of who you are at the core with the power of their intentful symbolism.

This has the ability to assist in DNA shifting/aligning and accessing portal experiences, which in turn collectively has healing benefits and openings – VERY MUCH aligned with the December Gateways we are approaching and what 2012 has been focused on preparing us for.

And, like I shared in my post Some Cool Tattoo Facts & Statistics – Transforming Lives One Tattoo at a Time:

As our inner and outer worlds continue to rapidly change, more and more people are being drawn into the world of body art, especially with the shift in perspective on how tattoos can actually help support a new reality of experience in your life. Sacred tattoos that are consciously and intuitively chosen in a way that most supports the intentions, needs and empowered healing you desire are increasingly becoming the new paradigm of tattoos that mirrors the now.

Several have contacted me about new empowering tattoos they are wanting, as we near the end of 2012. These to mirror their huge transformations and courageous leaps they are making, and to assist with the new they are seeding.

With the approach of 12/12/12 I keep feeling called to be of greater service in the ways I have to give and so I am offering a 20% discount ($25 off) on my sacred tattoo design fees for anyone who would like an empowering spiritual tattoo to embody your intents, as you walk through the last 2012 gateways of the year. You can take advantage of this special until 12/12/12.

I will be away facilitating a trip in Bimini from 12/15 until 12/22, so I will not be able to receive requests during that time, having no email or phone access. So if you would like to have the design created before then, keep this in mind. Otherwise, you can utilize your design services upon my return.

A personalized sacred tattoo design is a powerful way to honor yourself and can also be a unique and meaningful gift to someone in your life that is embarking on this journey of sacred body art. Gift certificates available.

And for the tattoo aficionado in your life, or if you are interested in a new paradigm of tattoos that mirrors the collective shifts, Spiritual Skin may be the perfect gift of empowerment.

Many who have been on the path of getting their first tattoo, or wanting to bring more meaning, spirituality, and power into their next tattoo, have read this book. They shared how they found it to be supportive in understanding how much more a tattoo is than they thought and found it helpful to begin their process of an intent-fully designed tattoo.

Egyptian Sacred Tattoo Design – Layers of Symbolism in Elegant Simplicity

Custom Egyptian Sacred Tattoo Design

Symbols work in the most amazing way. They are like codes to speak directly with the divine mind. ~Christopher Penczak

I’ve been in process of designing some empowering sacred tattoos for an amazingly courageous, conscious client who I honor deeply. She has been experiencing the transformative power of her “Spiritual Skin” portals in incredible ways. The soul sisterhood we have reawakened and nurtured in this process has enabled such a beautiful and clear channel of trust, honor, respect and unconditional love to flow. These are the root foundations that not only make for a powerful partnering, but allow for clarity of the energy to manifest beautifully.

“I strongly and passionately believe that Sacred Skin – Tattoos – are a potent, powerful, remarkable, miraculous process of transforming reality.  I am so drawn to it, and so moved by it – like nothing else!  Working with you is like working with my own heart,” shares my beautiful client. (read her full testimonial below)

In co-creative collaboration with her, and in partnership with her spiritually-attuned tattoo artist, we are supporting her beautiful journey into the heart of her power. I love her enthusiasm, openness and readiness to step up and forward. Each piece we design, she has embodied immediately into her experience and on her skin. Amazing!

This is the third piece we have manifested through our intimate journey together of unveiling the core of her energetic intents. This sacred design came through boldly and with purity and clarity, conveying a simple elegance and powerful grace – regal even.

Egyptian imagery is very precise, but embodies layers of symbolism, so this was not a surprise to me.

I was immediately excited when she approached me about this new piece, feeling the energy even before any vision was received or knowing what would come through. And we both embraced the process of patient percolation to allow the perfect symbolism to channel in its own timing. Every sacred tattoo is unique in its own way and carries a vibration relative to the soul who will embody it.

Without going into the personal meanings this tattoo has for its wearer, I will share that in its simplicity it is simultaneously deeply rooted in all of the symbolism of the Egyptian Goddesses Hathor and Ma’at and, in essence, all of the things my client is bringing more into her experience. This is represented through the stylized sun disc and horns of Hathor and the feathers of Ma’at. It combines these powerful symbols with the Egyptian Lotus.

Hathor is the Goddess of love, beauty, the arts, music, dance, joy, fertility, motherhood, and divine feminine. She can be fierce and protective in her mother role, as well as is Queen of the Heavens, the night sky and day sky –  along with the Goddess Nut she is associated with the Milky Way during the third millennium B.C. The four legs of the celestial cow representing Hathor could be seen as the pillars on which the sky was supported with the stars on their bellies constituting the Milky Way on which Ra, representing the sun, sailed. At times Hathor is the Eye of Ra and considered his daughter, wife, but also Ra’s mother. Horus the Elder, an early form of Horus – God of light – sometimes was the son, or the husband of Hathor. (the Egyptian pantheon of Gods and Goddesses is in intricate interwoven web.)

Ma’at is the Goddess of truth, justice, morality, harmony, and balance. Her feather represents both love and truth. The hieroglyph that meant “love” is called the feathers of Maat, and features two or three feathers close together. Her feather was also the feather of truth and the measure that determined whether the souls (considered to reside in the heart) of the departed would reach the paradise of afterlife successfully.

I stylized the disc and horns with crossed feathers at top of the disc to represent the weighing of truth and integrative, empowered balance between all duality within and without that create wholeness and unity. The feathers also representing love and the lightness of heart that grace life in flight, sitting atop the sun disc – or an eye of light. This sits between Hathor’s mothering horns and her celestial pillars to the sky and Milky Way.

The lotus flower is a symbol of the sun, of creation and rebirth. Because at night the flower closes and sinks underwater, at dawn it rises and opens again. According to one creation myth it was a giant lotus which first rose out of the watery chaos at the beginning of time. From this giant lotus the sun itself rose on the first day. It is a symbol of Upper Egypt, but often it was shown with its long stems intertwined with papyrus reeds (a symbol of Lower Egypt), as representation of the unification of the two lands.

All this symbolism (and more) to say how something seemingly simplistic can embody so much potency. These symbols contained in sacred tattoo designs are encoded keys that go directly to the divine heart and soul to activate, awaken, transform… personal portals to empowered experiences.

About the Sacred Journey of Spiritual Skin Tattoos with Tania Marie:

To me, getting tattoos has always been about the spiritual meaning of them.  I would get to a point in my life when I would want to have a design that would signify an important accomplishment or change in my life.

I have searched through many different means, ways to transform my life.  I have never experienced anything as powerful and life-altering in a positive way as the experience of tattoos as Sacred and Spiritual.

I began to try to find out if anyone else had these same experiences, if anyone else cared about the Sacred and Spiritual Energetic shifts that can occur with Tattoos.  In my searching, I found Tania Marie who wrote a beautiful book called Spiritual Skin – Sacred Tattoos More Than Skin Deep.  I was drawn to her book by the title, and it enhanced my experience even more.

Eventually, I was compelled to email Tania and discuss the possibility of having her work with me to design some Sacred Tattoos for me.

It is almost impossible to put into words what this experience has meant and continues to mean to me in my personal life.  The process of co-creating with Tania, Sacred Skin that is meaningful and life-changing, is so much more than just designing a beautiful tattoo.  So much more than mere ink on skin.  Any good artist can create a beautiful design.  But I know of no one who does the kind of work that Tania does.

Working with Tania is like working with someone on a different plane – someone who takes what you say about who you are, and listens to the energy behind your words.  Tania has the beautiful ability and gift of being able to read a client’s energy and also to read the energy that is coming through from the universe that is most needed for the journey of wholeness to be made complete in the sacred tattoo design.

My heart and soul trusts this woman with complete openness and faith in her incredible ability to truly listen.  This is a rare, rare gift, and it shows in the designs she creates for me.

My life has changed, and continues to change, in miraculous ways due to the Spiritual Skin designed by Tania Marie especially for me.  These Sacred Designs are so much more than beautiful ink on skin – they truly are portals to different depths of experience of the fullness and wholeness of life.

I am blessed and honored beyond measure to be a part of such a Sacred and Transformative Process – working with this beautiful human being to bring in the healing designs that are what I need at that time.

May you be blessed with your choice to work with this truly gifted and spiritual woman.  You will never regret one second of this choice.

In peace and love,
Mari Braveheart-Dances

Nature’s Gifts – An Artist’s Inspiration

Gaia’s Gift by Tania Marie – original available for purchase: http://taniamarie.com/gallery2.htm

Painting is my sacred key of life. Like the wing of a butterfly is essential to its flight, creating visionary art is the breath of life to my soul. My inspirational muses are the natural world, Earth’s beautiful creatures, the mystical and ancient worlds, the Cosmos, celebrations of life, expressions of the immensity of love, and conscious, collective awareness.

Nature provides an abundance of miracle beauty to feed the heart and soul of each of us and if you are an artist, there is unlimited inspiration to immerse yourself in to your heart’s content.

When I view the world around me, I see everything as a miraculous  birthing from the source of boundless universal love and creative power that explodes into experience each time a new conception of inspiration takes place through a channel of the Great Central Sun, Universe, God, All That Is, Source….

I honor with deepest gratitude our loving Mother Earth, Gaia, Terra…she endlessly and tirelessly nurtures us with her precious gifts.

My painting pictured left, Gaia’s Gift, was channeled in honor of her and currently I am completing a new piece in my series, Universal ARKitecture that also honors our beloved Terra and connects us to the roots of these ancient origins through another animal spirit guide – the Tortoise.

The mysteries of the Universe cease to amaze. There is unlimited awe-inspiring bursts of creative beauty every fleeting moment.

Spending time in nature is balancing, healing, and integrative for us all. For me in particular, I need time spent immersed in it, as well as soaring the “other” realms. It not only nurtures my soul, but provides inspiration for the work I do, along with a constant sustaining source to fuel me.

Water or its essence, in particular has always been a main source of my healing, energy, creative inspiration, clarity, flow, and sense of home. That may be no wonder by my being a Pisces, but there is definitely a theme of energy I have been surrounded by my entire life and where I chose to birth into. Having lived nearly all of my life on the Southern California coast, this has been a gift to my soul to be near the Pacific Ocean and its Lemurian energies. Each of the other places I lived all either were on the water, by the water, or of watery and Lemurian essence as well. This included living on the water for about a year in Indianola, Washington (on the Kitsap Peninsula in Puget Sound), living in Sedona, Arizona a couple of years, and living at stunning Lake Tahoe, Nevada for a few years.

Definitely life themes for me in where I feel drawn in order to be most naturally me and channel my expressions of that, but being by a large body of water I have found to be a necessity and not a luxury for me – whether close to it, or actually on it. Otherwise, as they say, I feel like a fish out of water….

Needless to say, the water is but one of the magical elements Earth has to share with us. The trees, the animals, flowers, weeds, dirt, sand, rocks, mountains, lava, wind, etc. each have their own majesty. And as an artist, I view them through a different lens, which is one of the reasons I am always photographing what I see, as I find it all so spectacular and like “instant art.” I’m like a little girl unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning every time I see something new, as each fleeting moment is full of creative spontaneity manifesting. I envision everything as a painting that has been beautifully brushed into being and I draw upon the awesome explosion of colors as an emulsion of nature’s heart and soul.

Intuitively, I’ve been drawn to get out on the beach with my toes in the sand and feet in the water at least 2-3 times a week lately, either for the day or at sunset or both. It’s mirrored my integrating balance and listening to my intuition, as to what my soul needs for the shifts I am going through and how I can best receive what is needed to assist and serve others. I have found it very helpful with my artistic creations and this new series of paintings I have been channeling forth.

And every time I visit the beach, there is always something amazingly synchronous and beautiful that takes place, as if the Universe is gifting me for listening to the calling. Whether dolphins appear, encounters with pelicans and other sea birds I end up helping, new discoveries, no one there making it a private beach, or otherworldly, amazing sunsets, it all helps my sense of peace and connection. And thereafter, I approach my painting with freshness, flow, and greater access to my innate abilities to bring forth the visions I feel. If I feel anything blocking, the ocean energy quickly helps me to flow once again.

It is because of this that I also recently incorporated the Laguz Rune – literally meaning Water or Ocean, but more importantly the essence of what that is esoterically – into my “Spiritual Skin” I wear as an energetic portal of its embodiment – utilizing the productive energies and honing and being conscious of the undercurrents as well.

The last time I just ventured to the beach for a picnic dinner sunset, there was such a breath-taking dance of color in the sky that surrounded me full-circle. It was so beautiful and it kept shifting moment to moment, each second was like a personal performance I was watching in gratitude and amazement. It is arrays like these that inspire my personal style of painting and of course I not only was running in the sand like a little girl and saying, “wow! look at those colors! and oh my gosh look! and there’s this and that and a portal and a celestial being and…in the sky,” as I snapped away photograph after photograph, but I was also conscious that these displays mirror something for me and that they provide energetic downloads. I always say thanks and feel blessed and honored.

Not only the artist me receives abundant inspiration from such beauty, but the entire “beingness” of me receives all that it needs and in return I mirror that creative expression and love through the gifts I have to give and share with the collective.

I hope you enjoy these photos from my sunset time at my favorite beach in this area – Crystal Cove (no surprise this beautifully named beach would energetically draw me in – love the name and reminds me of all the towns along Lake Tahoe’s shores named after crystals too). The following photos share how the sky developed into one new painting at a time, in front of me while I communed with Source – the Great Central Sun. My way of sharing inspiration so that you may feel the joy and receive an expressive experience of this energy in your own life. And if you too are an artist, I send a little extra creative inspiration energy through these images to support imbuing new energy into your creations. In love, Tania

Divine Union & the Empowered Goddess – Custom Sacred Tattoo Designs

Sacred Tattoo Design by Tania Marie Copyright

It has been a full and abundantly creative channeling week of commissioned painting and sacred tattoo designs (including one for myself), along with mid-week beach enjoyment (days and evenings absorbing the ocean energy) and more of that this weekend. Definitely a time to connect with the inner realms of intuition, telepathy and emotion, as well as embrace the flow of creativity and visionary intentions into manifestation – especially with yesterday’s Full Blue Moon in Pisces (my Sun sign). Feeling very at home in this watery realm.

Today I’m sharing the latest sacred tattoo designs that have emerged from the energies surrounding this week (and actually began the week prior, as the moment the connection is activated with the soul I am assisting, the process begins). I love to hear the stories of how things energetically already start shifting with the intention and portal opened from the onset of the intents we set forth in the creation process. Sometimes the process is quick and other times, it unfolds divinely and things are able to percolate in the background while the downloads take place.

The designs today that I’m sharing emerged over a couple of weeks. When I finally sit down to do the designing, after allowing things to flow in their own time, it is then a very fluid process. I truly embrace the sacred connection that takes place between myself and my client as a divine and sacred partnership.

I like to share “some” of the symbolism included in each design to allow others to see how tattoos, or any form of symbolic art, can truly encapsulate so much more than just a pretty picture.

The first image above was the desire of my client to create a rendition of the symbolism in an image she was drawn to, which I then imbued with elements that would support the energy she is evolving into and embracing more of. It is of a woman holding a lightning bolt – my artistic interpretation and intuited energetic depiction of the Motherpeace Tarot Deck’s Tower Card by Vicki Noble that was shared with me. I preferred her holding one lightning bolt that extended across her body as a solid, integrated energy that bridges both aspects of herself and depicts her ability to be in control, rather than controlled by outside forces that may seem threatening.

I also felt a more Earth Mother Goddess depiction felt mirroring for my client and the energies she is connected with and conveying. The image depicts this woman as having a natural beauty and simplicity, a gentle nature, but empowered, centered strength with inner peace and confidence. She is both nurturing and self sustaining, with abundant creation energy at her disposal. She is a woman of vision and shares her gifts through her heart, which is represented by the heart chakra 12 petaled lotus emanating behind her that is the supportive driving force behind everything from which she unconditionally and lovingly gives and receives. She is a woman of tremendous empowerment that has wise and responsible use of power, discernment and personal alchemy. She is centered and grounded within and allows her energy to be bigger and more vibrant, feeling safe, confident and vulnerably courageous to do so.

I enveloped her in a simple shawl of leaves and spiral symbolism that radiates from her sleeves. All of her chakras are radiating, activated, open and in harmony. Her hair and bottom of her shawl create an infinity symbol and I created the petals – the two at top and bottom – as almost a protective energy bubble around her, or could look like an energy cloak, throne, and the shape is also reminiscent of those more primitive goddess images/shapes. The lightning bolt crosses through her equally and brings together the element of “as above, so below” and in essence the design is also about “as within, so without.” A perfect blending and harmony of all aspects.

The same for the spiral designs to the left and right, which I included because of my client’s resonation with this design from a reference photo she shared and because the spiral energy is so powerful about how we move through our processes of life in continuity. They anchor and draw the energy out and spiraling. The spirals and edges of the heart chakra petals also flow with and mirror the design she already had on her lower arm.

This is a depiction of a woman that is in control of her environment, inward and outward and stands strong and confident in her grace and knowing. A very powerful, heart based energy indeed.

Sacred Tattoo Design by Tania Marie Copyright

The second sacred tattoo design I created for the same client is pictured right. This came to me like a flash. Here we incorporated a couple of elements she wanted, infused with my intuited rendition and added imagery and way to tie it all in to one beautifully integrated symbolism. She wanted the Gaelic phrase “Anam Cara” (one I actually have myself) and the 3 moon phases, which also connects to the triple goddess energy. I kept getting nudged with an image of, and the word, sunflower for her. It is the main part of this design, with a beautiful organic feel, radiating energy like the sun and a center that has the 3 moon phases, with full moon culminating in a spiral center. (perfect time to be creating full moons on yesterday’s full blue moon in Pisces!) and then I felt the anam cara to be the grounding and stabilizing stem, adding a small bud that is emerging.

So here we have the fully blossomed sunflower in all of its glory, fully sharing its joy and vibrancy of life and life sustaining energy demonstrating the fullness of her embracing and standing in her power, and a bud that represents the parts of her that she continues to evolve, nurture and will bloom into fruition. I felt that since sunflowers are symbolic of the sun, that to put the moon phases at its center was a perfect empowered unity symbolism.

We have the integration of divine male and female here in beautiful synergy and partnership. The male sun petals framing, supporting and protecting the beauty of the female creativity, intuition, emotions…Inner and outer in harmony.

And in essence, Anam Cara being that uniting of inner and outer within yourself in the temple of your sacred “you” home, that then bonds with the energies of others on that same level you have attained in beauty and love with yourself. So to have it written on the stem of her sunflower (symbolizing her) is to acknowledge that sacred union and partnership she has with herself and that she is sharing in joy with the collective. Having the sunflower uniting divine feminine and male as created here (and in general is the beauty of flowers) is the essence of this Anam Cara essence emanating from shining and sharing her inner light and beauty in all of its glory. You can read more on how the energy of Anam Cara unfolds from within our sacred relationship to self and then without in bonding relationship and connection to others here: The Meaning of Anam Cara

Sunflowers are also symbols of spiritual attainment, flexibility and opportunity, the way they move their massive heads to meet the sun. Here is some more beautiful symbolism that sunflowers possess, which to me speaks to so much of what the energy intents were in creating a design to empower certain elements for my client and that are in process for her: Symbolic Sunflower Meaning by Avia Venefica

My work is in the spiritual process: intuitive channeling, telepathic connection, sacred symbolism, manifesting the abstract visions/essence into form and to help pinpoint the energies most supportive (including, if desired, the placement) through an encoded creation of sacred body art. It’s a very involved process.

If you are interested in having me assist with the co-creation of your own personal sacred tattoo design I provide both stand-alone consultations via email or design consultations to create the perfect custom tattoo reflective of you. The Essence of You – Do Tattoos Support or Hinder Your Personal Essence?

Spiritual Skin

Since putting out my book, Spiritual Skin, I get an influx of questions from readers, clients and curious enthusiasts and I notice themes and their energetic timing. One such theme I’ve wanted to address for a while and got another nudge recently to do so, is on the topic of inner confliction and how tattooing hinders or supports one’s personal essence.

Questions emerge when people have been facing the prospect of getting their first tattoo and then an inner and outer dialogue begins that comes to the surface to process and integrate. Many then begin to feel unclear about their decisions and start questioning if this is the path for them, wondering…Does it really mirror who I am? How does something seemingly harsh or “non-organic” translate into the essence of what I and others see myself as, in being more pure? Will this change how others see me? Will it change who I know myself to be? Is this really aligned with what I am trying to create and embody in my life? Is this really the right expression for me or should I choose something less permanent? How will others feel about me after I do this? Will I be ostracized or judged and if so, does that matter?

All of these are valid and valuable questions and in my opinion, very normal, when faced with what I’ve come to see as a huge step in the journey of self-empowerment and ultimately, collective awakening. Does this mean this path is for everyone? No. Does it mean it may not be the right timing or there may be a more suitable personal channel? Yes, potentially. Does it mean there are shadow aspects and potential unauthentic and conditioned beliefs and fears you are weeding through still? Yes, most likely. Does it mean you are remembering and empowering who you really are. Yes, definitely.

What I’ve come to see is that when someone in question begins the journey to find answers to those questions and seeks those answers out from others, the plot seems to thicken. I have found that others mirror you and your own inner dialogue and will play that out for you in the way that you need. So you will always find the answers you want or need to hear and they are accurately sharing based on what is coming through. However, the question is, to which voice are they answering and mirroring? Others are always a good and timely sounding board to ourselves and will reflect what you need to hear and play out the shadow aspects for you that will best serve your personal growth, path and the choices you make along it.

The key then is practicing wise discernment as to which voice is of your heart of hearts.

I wanted to write a blog on this for a while and when I recently answered this theme again for someone, I felt rather than piece together a long drawn out dissertation, (I’ll leave that for my book when that comes to be and address all these aspects specifically then) I’d share my response and allow that to speak as it may to each of you that may have similar questions and experiences. It doesn’t address each point specifically, but in essence covers this theme through my own story. Here is a version of what I shared:

The best way for me to share this is through personal experience.

Everyone throughout my life has held a very pure and ethereal feeling of what I portray, both physically and energetically. In some ways that may have at times felt like a lot to live up to in terms of other’s expectations and what they deemed those definitions to translate as. They would never have thought that my getting tattoos would be part of their observational idea of what that translates into as, or looks like to them. The key being, when they share an opinion, it is based on their observational viewpoint separate from the object (me) being viewed. It is channeled through that person’s conditioned funneling system and interpretative ability to formulate what someone/thing (I) energetically manifests as through their personal experience of me. This observation and conclusion is also based on what I have revealed, or allowed to be revealed to them, that they go by, coupled with that personal interpretation of how they see me to be through their filtering system that is unique to them.

When I first got my tattoo there were levels of depth I needed to penetrate within me to understand how all of this translates and where “my” desires stemmed from outside of what others shared or even how I might have bought into thinking, based on the constant mirroring of what people would share and how that “should” relate and translate to “them.” Seeing where I may have attachments to their concepts and definitions, because of the emotional acceptance bought into and felt comforting not to diverge from, and how those varied or conflicted with my own personal beliefs and feelings that made more sense in my heart and soul, was key.

This was a continued process that went deeper and deeper with each tattoo experience. So many things to transcend and break as patterns and conditioning and even sabotaging within myself or hiding from myself because as a Pisces I was, and could be, so vulnerable to taking on what others feel and think (having no boundaries and being collectively ultra-sensitive and mutable) and could easily misinterpret it as me, when in fact it wasn’t at all. That discovery was an unfolding process of taking very courageous steps in challenging myself to discover me and learn how to discern, understand the energetic nuances of what was real and authentic to me and what was not, and to still yet maintain my collective connection while empowering self.

My serpent tattoo

This especially was so when I got my serpent on my hand that at first I found myself subconsciously hiding and pulling sleeves over because of the connotation of serpents and how others have come to view (misinformedly) the serpent symbolism. Once I integrated the understanding of this beautiful and powerful symbolism and shadow aspect that I had come to know and resonate with, then I saw the direct and beautiful mirroring of my integrated embodiment of it in other’s experience of it as well.

Stories could go on, however, in the end, I STILL have the same mirrored feelings from others about how my energy is pure, faery, ethereal, otherworldly, earth goddess, nature connected, how vibrant or healthy they see me as, despite AND because OF my tattoos.

The reason why? Authenticity and because I have learned how to transcend all of it and connect within me as to who I am and putting out the vibration of that through my heart. And that emanates through anything that may or may not be on my body, as well as shifts perceptions, helps transcend judgments, and has helped others to expand their definitions of what pure looks like. Every time I may take things up another notch with tattoos or anything in general, as I like to challenge myself to greater expansion, there can be that time period of integration, which now is much swifter and more natural than black and white.

Everything is energy and the energy is what comes through my tattoos and is what they are made of – magick. Not separate, not defining, and not altering of who I am at the core, but are an extension of my energy expressed through me so that others can feel who I am and see with new eyes a whole picture that exists. They also help to activate and empower more of who I am at the core in the power of their intentful symbolism and ability to assist in DNA shifting/aligning and accessing portal experiences, which in turn collectively has healing benefits and openings.

Who I am at heart and how I embody that, reflects how anything I do, say, or wear translates. Everything stems from me and when the truth within is embraced and honored, it shifts everything outwardly as a direct mirror.

This is why I have experienced others being very drawn to the tattoos I have as sacred body art, not simply because they think the designs are cool or are done in a way that aesthetically resonates, but because they emanate an energy that alone they could not do, but they have because of what is emanating through them FROM me and the intentful and heartfelt energy I’m connecting with when I share myself with others. The deeper I go with myself, the more energy exudes. I have been stopped by the most arbitrary people, including those who aren’t normally attracted to tattoos, and even mothers with children in stores who show their kids my tattoos, who in turn are fascinated. Kids are connected with more purity and this is not a usual behavior of a mom to share.

I may be unique in my experiences and my path is not everyone’s, but for me this is how I have seen the process play out.

It’s all a beautiful process into ourselves. It’s valuable to ask these very important questions to go deeper within so that you come to honor that place within “you” most heartfully.

If interested in reading more on this topic you may find resonation with my book, Spiritual Skin. If you would like assistance in co-creating your own sacred tattoo design, you can email me at tania@spiritualskin.com

My Personal Alchemy of Creative Expression – Symbolism of the Leo New Moon

Change is a constant in life that is easier when we flow with it rather than fight it. And for those that know me, it is a continually, pretty dramatic constant in mine indeed. I’m a creature of symbolism and live a symbolic life. I’m also a visionary artist and thrive on creative expression and finding ways to imbue energy, feelings and alchemy into and through what I create.

My sacred and symbolic body art

That is no surprise, if you’ve seen my tattoos and read my book, Spiritual Skin, or if you follow this blog and have seen any of my paintings or sacred tattoo designs. I pay attention to signs, I experience synchronicity, I find joy in walking the magick path, and I channel and express everything in symbolic and creatively loving ways whether on my person, in my personal environment and sacred space, or through my work. Creativity is a magical and powerful energy that is vital to exercise and cultivate through love.

I often share of the transformations and shifts I go through very publicly and vulnerably, as I feel experiences shared can assist others in ways we are not even aware at just the right moment needed. Following and encouraging our hearts to be open allows us to connect so deeply with others we may never meet, simply by creating energetic doorways.

I’ve been experiencing another huge shift lately that feels so lovely in gentle, soul caressing ways, even though some of the outer expressions of that may seem abrupt or dramatic to others. Or maybe they won’t, since everything seems to be in much more natural flow these days, but either way, it’s a joyous time and an empowering time and life continues to get more magickal and amazing to me.

I’ve recently shared about new tattoos I’ve gotten and will be here shortly, healings that have taken place, and in general, new phases of my work being revealed and the expressions of them shifting in process as well, along with a lot of new perceptions on everything in my life – and integrating how that manifests. I also shared recently about physical changes, as in going back to 90% + high raw vegan, cleaning out and restructuring my closet and wardrobe (a really fun and cleansing thing for me), shifting around my personal space, and hinting at a new hair change, which entails lightening and empowering myself with short locks (cutting likely what will be just over 13″ off)! Yay! And all of these changes will continue, as that is life…an ever-evolving experience of loving, co-creation.

But back to my hair, which excites me in the symbolism and extra liberating energy I feel it is about to assist in ushering in, along with an authenticity that mirrors me currently. Usually when I get a hit on something, an epiphany, an idea, or whatever you want to call it, and it clicks, there’s no hesitation. I just do it. Of course I make sure it is aligned with what I feel to be most honoring of myself, but I don’t wait around to allow any nerves, fears or over-analyzing to kick in and take over. That isn’t to mean I don’t address things with discernment, but I don’t feed the unauthentic parts of myself with any more than embracing they are there, allowing what they bring up to move through me, thanking them for what they have shown me, and releasing them back to where they came from and empowering what I know to be me. There are times when I just channel something and I know it’s what I feel drawn to as my truth, regardless of whether or not I understand the whys yet, as I receive things sometimes way before the rest catches up. In which case, I also will follow that strong nudge. But this time, even though I had to wait about four weeks (less than the almost 6 it would have been) from onset of my getting the nudge, I knew there was power in waiting and I can see how everything in between has really been instrumental to what is being alchemized into creation.

I already had a regular hair trimming appointment scheduled, but the date felt so long off, and suddenly I felt to look at when the New or Full Moon was approaching, as I remember once a friend of mine had shared about how it was good to cut your hair on and around those times, for maximum benefit to hair – and stylists seem to agree saying that trimming or cutting your hair when the moon is just entering a New Moon phase will perpetuate hair growth.

Later I realized how it aligned the energy also to you as a whole and what you are creating, as the astrological influences surrounding the Moon phases will have a personal and collective effect. I’ve sometimes made my appointments around these times, but not consistently. However, since I had the nudge, this time felt important to look at doing that again especially feeling the potency of things currently and what I’m looking to create. Originally my appointment was for the 28th, which was between the Full Moon of Pisces on the 31st (the Blue Moon) and the New Moon of Leo on the 17th. I felt drawn to both and both would indeed carry their own great energy, but my gut went with the Leo New Moon and that day approaches this Friday.

Ute York – a hairstylist who worked according to the moon phases for 15 years – shares this in his book, Living By The Moon:

Hair is an energy carrier. Hair is as sensitive as it’s owner and needs a certain vibration in order to feel well.

In order to promote faster growing hair, it’s better to cut it around the time of the New Moon Phase. And, in order to promote thicker and fuller hair, it needs to be cut during the Full Moon Phase.

If the ends are trimmed on these 2 days, it will continue growing without impedence.

He has found that when men regularly get hair cut with the moon in the sign of Leo, their hair improves and becomes stronger. (this likely works for women too)

American astrologer Linda Goodman says if you want your hair short then continue cutting during the Full Moon; it will not grow back as fast. However if you want it to grow back quickly, trim regularly at the New Moon, even just a tiny bit. Then you will realize your hair is growing much faster.

Fire – #1 in my In Lak’ech Series – emanating fire alchemy from within

We are approaching the New Moon in Leo this Friday 8/17/12 and so too do I simultaneously approach the culmination of a personally symbolic transformational day. However, this energy is available to all of us at this time. The magic of the Leo New Moon highlights personal changes and can specifically result in dramatic appearance changes as a result. A time to radiate from within, and allow vibrant self-expression and inspiration to emerge and be shared with others.

As Molly Hall shares in her article New Moon in Leo ~ Be a Luminary:

New Moon in Leo themes: making time for play; fanning the creative flames; standing in your personal power; celebrating your unique story; going on an adventure; radiating confidence to be Big; taking delight in something; risking growth through creativity; stepping into leadership; passionate love and friendship; laughing out loud (for real).

The chart for this new Moon is a coming together with three other planets (Sun, Mercury, Venus) in this vital fire sign. If you’ve been dragging around lately, it’s a chance to reclaim what’s been lost, and stoke your own inner fire. Being a fixed sign, this infusion of Leo fire can dislodge you from the passive, ho-hum, shadow of yourself, automaton life many of us fall into. It can be a new beginning that propels you down a more active, self-created path, if you take the first bold Leap.

…..Leo inspires acts of creativity that emerge from the heart of the Self. That makes this new Moon an ideal time to set intentions that re-energize your inner artist.

Needless to say it’s an exciting time for alchemizing our very existence. We are infinitely creative beings here to evoke the remembrance of desires we have kept deeply hidden in our hearts. This is an opportune and timely alignment of energies for really bringing forth the authenticity of your heart and expressing it in its most beautiful light, outward to all from within.

As within, so without. As above, so below.

Sacred Bone, Tattoos and Stones: Mayan Portal Mysteries Unraveling

My sacred tattoos, including Hunab Ku (Galactic Butterfly) on my sacrum at bottom

I’ve been receiving a lot of intuitive nudges on the sacrum and coccyx, both literally and energetically. With my own experiences in having sudden pains over the last several months in that area (physically due to a fracture of the tailbone I had about 11 years ago, but energetically linked to much more), hearing from a few others on issues or focus on this area, and even clients and friends getting sacred tattoos on their sacrum, it all started to hit me again, as to the significance of this region. I then was reminded about the connections that had taken place for me about 8 years ago and how it all is energetically linked with the now.

March 5, 2004 I got my second sacred tattoo. It was the Hunab Ku symbol (or Galactic Butterfly, as it’s also known).

This symbol is called the Galactic Butterfly which is said to represent all of the consciousness that has ever existed in this galaxy. This is all of our physical ancestors both human, animal, reptile, fish, shell fish, plants as well as the consciousness which organized all of the raw material from a whirling disk into stars then planets and solar systems. Big Meaning. So big that the original Maya had no symbol for this. In their civilization it was like having no name for God. Just knowing the concept was good enough. Later this pattern was devised by Toltec or Zapatec weavers as a pattern for blankets and this is where Jose Arguelles came across it. He called it Hunab Ku. The indigenous peoples call it “The Galactic Butterfly”. Butterflies are seen as ancestors returning for a visit to physicality. Wearing one of these symbols is very powerful as it broadcasts your reaching to actively join the consciousness of our galaxy. ~ Ian Xel Lungold

I was intuitively drawn to place this Galactic Butterfly on my sacrum. At that time in my life, everything was just intuitive for me in what I did. I would then come to see later, the significance and reiteration of why I would be drawn to certain things. And right after I got this tattoo, a whole unraveling started to take place, as I also got my first computer and was able to do research and uncovered deeper meanings to so many things that were emerging in my life at the time, including this tattoo, the placement and the paintings that started to channel. I had opened a doorway that created a flood of energy , experiences, and information into my life in new ways from that point on. The symbol itself, Hunab Ku, had come to me while I was in a bookstore with my brother after getting my first butterfly tattoo, by just being drawn to a book where it was in and I had always had in back of mind that if I ever got another tattoo that that would be it. That was like somewhere near 1998-2000. And then several years later it emerged, after staying with me all that time.

What I discovered, alongside the meaning of this symbol, was also the significance to my own life and soul history and path, as well as the connection with the sacrum bone.

As I shared in my book, Spiritual Skin:

Brian Stross’ “The Mesoamerican Sacrum Bone: Doorway to the Otherworld,” addresses in great depth some of what I came to realize about the potency of my placing the Mayan Hunab Ku (otherwise known as the Galactic Butterfly) on my sacrum. He states:

The sacrum bone has been viewed by some cultures as a “sacred” bone, and been seen as related to reproduction, fertility, and reincarnation. … “in Mesoamerica the sacrum represented one index of the more generalized but variously manifested ‘portals’ or doorways permitting translocation of shamans, spirits, and deities between worlds or levels of the cosmos.”

Brian Stross continues to share:

In Mesoamerica the sacrum, along with closely associated bones, is apparently seen as sacred in some Indigenous societies even today, though surely less so now than in earlier times. The name “sacrum,” designating the more or less flat bone with eight holes located at the base of the spine, comes directly from Latin os sacrum, meaning ‘sacred bone’.  Sugar points out that while most bone names readily reveal their origins, it has long been a mystery why the sacrum bone (os sacrum) should be called the “holy bone.”  “That it is a translation from the Greek hieron osteon merely pushes the inquiry back from the first Latin use in about 400 AD to the time of Hippocrates (about 400 BC)” (1987:2061).  Following the trail through several explanatory hypotheses about the origins of the name sacrum, Sugar introduces evidence that the sacrum in tradition was the bone necessary for resurrection, identifying it as the “almond” or luz of the Hebrews and the ajb of the Arabs, and ultimately deriving its conceptual underpinnings from the ancient Egyptians (1987:2062‑2063).

Upon finding that some Mesoamerican Indian languages also named this bone with words referring to sacredness and deity, one may well ask why societies distant from one another refer to the sacrum as a “sacred” or “holy” bone.   Presumably such naming practices reflect independently, rather than through diffusion, the cultural importance of this bone, and one can suggest plausible explanations, based on observational logic, for its being termed “sacred.”  The word “sacred” for our purposes can be defined as “worthy of veneration, reverence, and respect on the one hand, and protected by tradition and ritual against symbolic or actual abuse on the other.”

The sacrum bone is, among other things, the fulcrum of support for the human torso, and as such is well designed to take great physical stress.  It is what we sit on, and by sitting we place ourselves at rest in a position that can be maintained without significant movement for long periods of time.  Perhaps more importantly from perspectives of symbolism and cultural importance, it is located next to the reproductive organs, which are of utmost significance for the species as well as the individual, and are surely of great significance in most if not all societies.  In its proximal location, the sacrum could well be thought to share significant qualities with the reproductive organs, and even to transport material from the brain to those organs.

Several cultures around the world assume that the sacrum participates directly in procreation by channeling seminal fluid through the spinal column to the penis, most notably ancient Egyptians and some cultures of India.  Its location on the body and the formal similarity of spinal fluid to semen provide an observational basis for these conclusions.  Even Leonardo da Vinci, with such a fine grasp of human anatomy, must have made a similar assumption, for he placed in his drawing of a human male a seminal duct leading from the sacrum at the bottom of the spinal cord to the penis (Huxley 1974:64).

Sacredness of this bone is also related to a belief found in various parts of the globe that the sacrum is the “resurrection bone” from which residual raw material remaining after death a person will be reborn, presumably by attracting the spirit residing within.   This notion may spring from the observation that as an especially hard bone, the sacrum resists disintegration through time, and is often among the very last visible remains of a body that has been left on the ground or that has been unearthed long after burial.  A rational basis for attaching importance to the sacrum bone can thus be constructed from empirical observations and conclusions underlain by a kind of observational logic.

Stross goes on to share some fascinating insights and research presenting the ritual and symbolic significance of the sacrum in Mesoamerica  and its place in conjunction with a shamanic world view. His findings also present things pointing to the fact that:

…the sacrum as a focal part of the pelvic girdle represents a metaphor for the cosmic portal linking this world with the Otherworld while emphasizing the generative or (pro)creative aspect of the life cycle, just as the jawbone as a focal part of the skull represents another metaphor for the cosmic portal, but one emphasizing the analytical or destructive aspect of the cosmic cycle.

He then continues with a discussion of the human pelvis in shamanic worldview:

A pillar of five fused sacral vertebrae within the pelvic girdle supports and balances the human torso.  This pillar, the sacrum, is attached to four more fused vertebral bones together called the coccyx, but otherwise known as the tailbone.  The sacrum (or the sacrum and the coccyx together) is a pivot, a support, and a focal center in the human body….Some Mayan names for pelvic bones or for the rump region suggest that the procreative area of the human body was in the past identified by Mayans as a figurative “fire” composed of the coccyx surrounded by figurative pelvic “hearthstones,” three being the traditional number of stones in the Mesoamerican hearth.  Two of the pelvic “hearthstones,” the hipbones, are similar in form, like mirror images, while the third, the sacrum, is different.  The pelvis, so closely connected to the creation of new life, somewhat resembles a skull and shares other features with the skull…

Dictionaries of Indigenous Mesoamerican languages do not often include words for sacrum or coccyx for understandable reasons, but there are a few that do, and related concepts such as Spanish rabadilla ‘coccyx, lower extremity of vertebral column (including that of a bird)’ and rabo ‘tail, hind end’ can sometimes be found when the more explicit form are not available.   In those Mayan languages for which we have translations of sacrum and coccyx, the words usually relate the sacrum to notions of ‘god’ and ‘sacred’, while the coccyx is related to ‘fire’.  For example, Yucatec Maya has a word for sacrum, k’ul, which also means ‘sacred’ and ‘holy’ (Barrera Vasquez 1980).   Itzá Maya has the word k’uul ‘hip, tail bone’ (Hoffling and Tesucún 1997:402), which surely derives from the Itzá root k’u ‘sacred, holy’.

The Tojolabal Maya word for sacrum s‑bah h‑wawtik (literally “sacred image, sacred self”) is based on the verb wawtikan ‘to worship, deify,’ and ultimately derives from the root waw ‘man’ (Lenkersdorf 1979 (2):666; (1):395).

In Choltí Maya data limitations render uncertain what the word xun‑xun means besides ‘coccyx’, but in a near linguistic relative, Chontal Maya, the root xun means ‘trivet, the three stones of the hearth’. For the Yucatec Maya a bird’s coccyx is called the “griddle of the rump” (xamach it), and in Chol Maya the base of a bird’s tail (its rump or coccygeal region) is called simply and literally “fire” (k’ahk) (Aulie et al 1978:21).

And the references continue in different Maya and Aztec languages that all come back to the same referencing to this sacred bone. Stross continues:

Language data of this sort, based on languages of today and the recent past, can tell us about perceptions in earlier times that do not necessarily reflect current understandings of worldview and important concepts as identified by a contemporary speaker, just as many English speakers use the word “secretary” without realizing that it reflects the notion of keeping “secrets,” or the word “sacrum” without thinking that sacredness is or ever was attached to it.  Because language generally lags behind culture change, our language data has here informed us more about past worldview than about the present one.   One might look long and hard at contemporary western culture without finding much evidence outside of books for a concern with the sacrum.  Somewhat more productive would be looking to mythology and other ancient narratives with a practiced interpretive eye, for even in oral narrative meanings are on multiple levels and are not always obvious, as we can see from the Popol Vuh‘s mention of Blood Woman’s impregnation by a “skull.”   However, through information preserved in language and in narrative, particularly when in written form, we are able to determine that some Old World perceptions of the sacrum and pelvic region, if not identical, were at least similar and comparable to those in Mesoamerica, and that data from the Old World links the “holy bone” or sacrum directly to resurrection, which implies passage through at least a figurative cosmic portal or doorway between this world and the other world.

…If the human body can be said to have “portals” or loci of transformative power where the body’s interior is connected with the external world, and perhaps also with the Otherworld, the sacrum in the pelvic girdle is likely one of these, while the jawbone in the skull constitutes the other.

The Coccyx Pendant, another very interesting linking Stross reveals:

A small unprovenanced, but apparently Classic Maya pendant found in the Ahaw collection is in all three dimensions precisely the size and shape of the human coccyx.   On it is carved a representation of a human figure.  This Coccyx Pendant, of apple green kosmochloric jadeite, has a laterally drilled hole for suspension, not visible in a frontal view.   The top half shows a head framed by rolled hair, circular earspools and arms held in the “crab‑claw” position of Maya rulers who usually cradle a serpent bar in this position.  Below this upper head, a second head occupies what should be the hip region, visually illustrating the notion of the body having an upper and a lower “skull”.   The lower head, manifested in the structural position of the sacrum, has a pronounced elongated chin that is simultaneously of the appropriate shape and position to be the coccyx of the “sacrum” (in this case the “sacrum” is the second skull that is visually manifested as a head).  In other words, a little knob at the bottom of the pendant represents a miniature version of the whole pendant, which itself represents a coccyx.  The shape and iconography of the Coccyx Pendant constitute strong evidence for the hypothesis suggesting Mesoamerican concern with the sacrum, and the notion of two “skulls”; and it suggests also the importance of the coccyx to the Maya during the Classic period.

Since Stross was focused on revealing the sacred connection with the sacrum and coccyx in his writings, he didn’t mention how the significance of this Maya coccyx pendant being created in jadeite, also spoke to this sacredness. When I read it I immediately was reminded of the marbled green “Dreamtime” Jade Sphere we have in our Joyful Earth Crystals collection (pictured right) and the link with this sacred bone area and Mayan “sacred stone.” Jade is known as a sacred stone by the ancient and some current primitive tribes. It allows you to access the knowledge used during the Mayan “dreamtime,” as it help you connect with the elders of the Mayan culture. The Mayans revered jade as the “Sovereign of Harmony” facilitating peace with the physical, emotional, and intellectual structures, as well as with the materialistic world. It was said to bring accord to the environment, to transmute negativity and instill resourcefulness. It promotes balancing of your needs with the requirements of the day, allowing you to nurture the things that are of prime importance to well-being.

….Frederick Starr has written of other native Mesoamerican traditions that connect the coccyx with sexuality, noting in this connection that in Mexico the coccyx is sought by prostitutes in the belief that men’s power (sexuality) is lodged therein (1899:100).   It is appropriate here to recall that some of today’s Maya call the coccyx bone the “fire,” recalling another of the Mesoamerican metaphors for the cosmic portal, i.e. fire.   Not to dwell on this metaphor, it is worth mentioning at least that a fire is a superior transformer of materials (making the milpa fertile, creating edible food for people, etc.), that not infrequently individuals referred to in the literature as shamans demonstrate their control over fire in one way or another (as for example by placing hot embers in their mouth), that the three hearthstones characteristic of indigenous Mesoamerican homes enclose the fire and establish the center of the house, and that of course fire is clearly another sort of portal or gatekeeper between worlds.

…If the body can be viewed as a microcosm, then its form is either a template for or a reflection of other cosmic levels, and its form is our only guide to the appearance and operation of these other levels, incomplete as this guidance may be.  The body has two ends regulating the passage between the inside the body and outside of it, and at these two ends are portals.  One end has the mouth; on the other end are the anus and the water producing urethral orifice (and in females there is also the entrance to the birth canal).  Concentration of power is in the bony appurtenances surrounding these portals, and most focally these bones are the lower jaw and the sacrum (sometimes including the coccyx).  On a slightly more inclusive scale, these bones are the upper skull and the lower “inverted skull.”

…A serpentine conduit, the spinal cord being protected by the bony vertebrae, joins the two skulls. The vertebral column, because of its durability, is where the power is presumed to be concentrated.  The soft portals of the body (mouth and anus) are also joined during life by a winding serpent‑like digestive tract composed of soft and perishable parts.  Things come into the body through the mouth portal, where they are transformed in composition (destroyed) by the actions of the jaw.  They pass through the serpent conduits in the body (spinal column, intestinal tract), and they pass out of the body, transformed in the pelvic portal (created) by the more mysterious actions of the sacrum.  The male body creates new life (ultimately delivered from the sacral region, and according to some the sacrum proper).  The new life is then transferred into the female womb (itself backed up by a sacrum).

Much that goes into the body, observational logic would dictate, is crushed into pieces in the mouth, transformed in the stomach and intestine, and exits by way of the anus, which by a continuation of the logic should itself be viewed as a portal, and surely it must be, though that has not been explored in this study, for lack of data.

In the worldview outlined above as “shamanic,” the body’s form and functions can be considered our most basic guide to understanding the appearance and functioning of other cosmic levels, operating thus to generate and/or reflect them.  In that way the metaphors and allegories relating the body to other elements in the world allow these elements and their combinations to be comprehended relatively easily, consistently, and with a plausible logic based on observing nature, and especially our bodies as parts of it.

This speaks to the Kundalini Serpent Energy

Stross concludes more with:

For example such observational logic treats the earth as a living being, so for the Huasteca Nahuatl speakers the soil comprises its flesh, while stones are its bones and water is its blood (Sandstrom 1991:238).  Vegetation is the earth’s clothing (Alcorn 1984:57). This logic continues in treating the mountain as if it is a person, with analogous anatomy and physiology.  The mountain has a “head” and a “foot”, grass that “clothes” its body, and animals that live in the remote parts of it.  It “drinks” water from the top (as rain) and the water is passed out from lower down (as springs).  Similarly the water is passed down to earth from the bottom part of the heavens, and sometimes likened to urination by the sky deities (Thompson 1970:253).  The earth, if likened to a human or animal body, needs to eat, and sacrificial food is placed at special places or portals [mouths of the earth].  The portals can be sacred places in the natural landscape such as particular caves, springs, mountaintops, and sacred trees. The portals can also be located on human-made miniature representations of the earth (or its parts) within the cosmos, such as altars, wayside crosses, and small temporary pits dug in the earth for placing sacrificed “food” in the center of the cornfield.  Just as some seeds need to pass through a bird’s intestinal tract before they can sprout, so the shaman initiate may see the need to pass through a long cave with two entrances (the earth monster’s intestine) in order to be purified and empowered, as can be observed in a well known long cave in San Luis Potosí when done by Teenek shamans.  This may be conceived as being swallowed by a serpent and passed out the other end.   Things like water, and spirits, etc. have to pass from one level or medium to another by means of the portals or “doorways” which are not always open, just as the animate mouth and anus are not always open.  Sometimes specific activities, times, and / or rituals are required to open them.  Blood appears to be a particularly useful substance in this respect, but music, dance, and chanting are frequently found in portal opening contexts.   Chanting clearly comes from the upper skull (assisted by the chest), but dance can be said to reside prominently in the hips (assisted by the legs and feet).

And here is an interesting table he includes that lays things out clearly:

TABLE 1   Transformation Zones

FOCAL REFERENT EXTENDED REFERENT NUMBER OF VERTEBRAE REALM
Portal 1 Jawbone Skull 7 Neck Vertebrae Middleworld
Conduit Spinal Cord Spinal Column 8 + 8 Intermediate Vertebrae Conduit
Portal 2 Sacrum Pelvis (Inverted Skull) 9 Sacral/Coccygeal Vertebrae Underworld

Alongside promising to share this information with someone who was inquiring, I’ve received big nudges of its importance, have had my own personal connections and experiences with this that are coming full circle, and in hearing of many also sharing tailbone and sacrum experiences of late, as well as many feeling compelled to work with the Root Chakra energies for integrative healing (I feel, holding a key to a lot), there is something to this.

I could draw many conclusions for you, but I think it best to let it percolate and find its own meaning for each. What I know for myself is nothing is arbitrary, everything has meaning and purpose, based on things I’ve been working with, receiving and feeling, combined with my major tailbone issues accompanying this and now subsiding and healing with miracle activations on my visit to Tahoe and working with Root Chakra energies, only to remain as a random bruising feeling at odd times in sacrum (an energetic reminder) and all the things I’m channeling with portal energy, having others activating their own sacrum portals with sacred tattoos (some that I have designed) and starting to connect their own dots with it….needless to say, I do experience the connection. 🙂

A Shaman’s Journey – Weaving Integrative Healing and Magic with Sacred Tattoo Designs

Sacred Tattoo Design by Tania Marie

I just completed another sacred tattoo design and it has been a beautiful journey, to say the least. When I am provided with the ability to let the designs work their own magic, in their own time, I love to see how they flow with what I have going on in my own life that ends up connecting beautifully with the client I am designing for. With this particular design, I was able to let the energy percolate while I was away in Big Bear and Lake Tahoe/Reno, taking in the energy of the mountains, forests and lakes. Perfect energy to connect with and through for what I was channeling.

Interestingly my computer had blown out when I arrived in Big Bear on the 4th of July and with everything I had in terms of information for this tattoo, on there, I was unable to work on it. So, I knew it was the first sign to let the energy work its own timing. Much time I spent out in the forests hiking and biking by the lake, where I connected with the Earth, nature, elements and animals – the Divine wholeness and bigger picture of everything. When I returned, I had to get a new computer up and running and in the meantime, catch up on other work, so I would tune in and do some channeling work with this design, when I felt the intuitive hit to do so without anything interfering. Then I was off to Lake Tahoe and Reno, where again, I was immersed in the beauty and magic ofnature and experiencing an integrative healing journey personally, as well as receiving collective messages as well. I had printed out the info for the design I’d been provided, so I could read it while in the plane there and back, so that I could allow it all to percolate and emerge in vision through me with what was flowing in energetically on this trip.

My intuitive feelings from the start would become more and more clear and upon returning, I knew the time was right to finalize the process and bring it into manifestation on paper. The day I began to have the flow emerge, I also took an evening walk on the beach where I was met by a pelican that allowed me to get as close as I wanted. I connected with it and knew it was communicating and had waited for me and the messages mirrored things for myself, but also reiterated the shamanic and shapeshifting, healing energy I was working with for this sacred tattoo design.

And yesterday, it all just flowed with grace and ease, as I played music to accompany my process that held the right energetic resonance, along with having my new smokey quartz heart crystal I got in Reno, alongside me to aid the channeling creation.

What I love is how the images emerge. I usually get a sense of the energy and even the exact symbolism/images that will be incorporated – the essence – but how they will look doesn’t really happen until I sit down and put pencil in hand and allow. Then it is like a channeling process and that guides me, by something beyond myself that comes through and things just magically start to appear. It’s the same with my paintings. But my process used to be that I would receive the exact vision in my head and then work towards creating that vision. Now my process has shifted where I receive the essence and how that comes to be is a beautiful and vulnerable journey of letting go and allowing that divine image to come through, unencumbered by any thoughts. A purely in-the-moment creation of heart expression that comes from tapping into that neither here nor there place and flowing freely – stepping out of the way and having Spirit move through me.

This is the process of sacred tattoo designing, for me, and what emerged with this one. And it is always so beautiful to hear the reiterations from those I co-create these designs with, in how so many elements synchronize with things in their lives or how specific things manifested that they didn’t share with me, but are in the image, etc. A mirror of open heart channeling between souls. More and more this whole process is deepening and collaborative team efforts are emerging in this partnering and people meeting each other heart to heart with courageous vulnerability. It really moves me to experience all of this with others. And it is a learning process for each of us in how to communicate and meet at that very revealing and authentic place that is honoring of each other during the journey. I go through my own evolution each time and with the different people I work with and what each brings to the table that challenges me on many levels to push myself to that space in which I can be bigger than myself. I am grateful for that journey and the integration it provides both of us.

This design that came through was special to work with. Each always is uniquely special in their own way since they reflect the individual beauty of each person, but I truly was honored in this journey, as it’s one of those times the soul I was working with basically revealed themselves in naked truth to me by choice of laying it on the table. I still get to do the intuitive work to see how things come together in the most empowering way, in circumstances like this, but it’s really indicative of how many are finding that self awareness and comfortability to expose their naked skin to others (me in this case) and in so doing I can assist in transforming it into spiritual skin that mirrors that beauty (and in general, that equates to people being able to truly interact at a heart and soul level without masks or hindrances.)

Usually I share a lot of the symbolism in the designs, but this time I wanted to share more on the journey. What resulted was a reflection of this client’s soul to me that revealed her shaman/healer/magical/shape-shifter/earth keeper energy. It was definitely a shamanic journey to receive it and what resulted was a beautiful tapestry of her soul that will empower the integrative healing and magic into her life she needs, as well as provide the energy to grow into. It will also help to balance the very male energies she has to bring in the divine feminine to integrate. The placement of her left hip/thigh, helping to integrate that feminine energy (as it’s connected with the right brain) and also the hips and thighs are about moving forward without fear and keeping one in balance.

The symbolism included were a mixture of ones that were important in her life, that she had connection with, or that I intuited based on what she shared and I received. I loved hearing how when she read my explanation to her of the design, that her Raven friend came to visit her at her window while she wrote back to me, she also had recently gotten some smokey quartz earrings (connecting with the one I was working with in channeling this), and some other cool synchronicities with what I designed for her. I originally had created four similar feathers as the four directions, unknowingly about her connection with feathers and then that opened up her sharing about her 3 feather collection she had given to her by special people and coming from powerful birds. She then realized that those 3 feathers would be powerful to incorporate and I agreed! So I took her photos and redid three of the feathers to match hers and the last remained as the one I created – a gift now from me. I intuited which feather was to go in which direction and used my pendulum to verify, which it did. I love the result and I can’t wait to see this in the flesh.

I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of people’s journeys and to assist in empowering others.

Doorways to Liberation – Sacred Tattoos as a Tool to Access New Realities

As mentioned in my last post, there has been an influx of experiences not only for myself, but with clients and friends going through their own personal shifts and amping up. It’s exciting to watch and support! I’ve seen more and more people ready to take those leaps and needing to have that reflected in their life in varying ways that mirror their personal trajectories that are awakening in alignment with collective needs and shifts. This is a very active time for people to step into more empowered authenticity and one of those ways has been through personal and symbolic expressions to hone in on those energies – sacred body art being one tool many are drawn to.

Those who never had been drawn to this form of art or personal expression (or had secret connection with it), are finding themselves drawn to it now, as they awaken those natural parts of themselves reflective of “their” authenticity and in resonance with what speaks through their heart as supportive, regardless of the environmental factors that have had their influences until now. I love to see people finding liberation through all the different channels available to assist – and mostly I just love feeling peoples’ lives on fire with the embracing of their own truths. I feel it to be an honor to be able to assist this liberation of others’ gifts, through the gifts I have available.

I’ve been a bit behind on posting as much, especially with new creations. I recently helped design a pair of tattoo designs for a client that spoke to her own personal evolution, which has been quite a journey. And I love how her first, and idea for only one tattoo, turned into two at once! It’s also always interesting for me to watch the evolution and processing that takes place in helping to assist with these designs and what it reflects, reveals, and challenges in each of us upon stepping into the realm of courageous and vulnerable self-expression and open liberation.

I’ll be posting more, as I’m working on some amazing pieces right now. I’m also excited about my next tattoo (yes another has evolved for me) that I”ll be getting at the beginning of August. VERY symbolically potent in terms of my personal experiences into a new reality. It has a connection with one of these I’m posting today, but through my own personal expression and needs, will manifest as is reflective of such.

I’ll be posting her designs when they come to life in the flesh, but wanted to share a bit about them for now. The first is a lovely hummingbird (the client’s animal totem and symbolic of much for her) with a magical rune embodied within it) and the other a custom made Seven Pointed Faery/Elven/Pleiadian Star (gateway to the Otherworld) to suit her energy and personal expression. Synchronously, this symbol has been showing up a lot for many, including myself since the beginning of the year, and is being fitted to my own energy as my next tattoo as well.

We created two versions of the hummingbird’s tail, so she could play with how it would flow on her inner forearm/wrist – one more hovering and one more in flight – along with a simple, elegant tail for one and one more airy and feathery. These are some of the tweaks that take place in the process for those that need visual support in feeling out what reflects best and gives choices to play with when taken to their tattoo artist.

Interestingly, but never surprisingly, as I had completed the Faery Star, an earthquake hit immediately after. Definitely creating energetic shifts and opening doorways to other realities, which was exactly what I was personally working on and everything we focus on is collectively linked. I love to see the direct manifestations of our creations. Rockin’ and rollin’! 🙂

Sacred Tattoo Co-Creations – The Beauty of Embracing

Original wrist sacred scarab tattoo design

Many have been drawn to the blog and design I posted in May of the Sacred Scarab Tattoo for my amazing client, friend and business partner, Allison Jacobson. This was the original post of the initial design we co-created: Sacred Scarab Goddess Tattoo Design. And at left you see the original design that resulted, which was intended for her wrist.

My initial sense, knowing and intuiting Allison’s energy and what she wanted to create in life and where she was headed, was that something “bigger” would be appropriate and was feeling her upper back.

The new sacred scarab tattoo design that emerged from the shifts, thus becoming a MUCH larger upper back/back of neck piece

Knowing my own processes, which I’ve shared some of in my book Spiritual Skin, as well as the collective processes and challenges people go through with embracing things in life, let alone tattoos (part of the reason for writing the book), I understand and support divine timing for each individual and what they are ready for. There are always those that are exceptions to things – like myself, Allison, and several of the clients that are drawn to my spiritual design work and my work and services in general – who are in temporary process of catching up to the parts that are already where they intend to be. I call these designs “space holders” that allow one to grow into the energy, while supporting that rapid shifting and experience we desire to manifest (and can) immediately.

So, while we both loved the design that emerged from our first creation, upon its completion things rapidly started to mirror the immediate shifts.

Different things started to not feel right for Allison and there was uneasiness about the challenges presented when we were discussing the design with our mutual vegan tattoo artist, James Spooner. And as we held the space to allow for the embracing of the shifts to take place on the inner plane, within a day we were already on the new trajectory of creating a MUCH larger piece for her upper back/back of neck area. he he!

The feelings were unanimous and Allison’s tattoo transformed into one majorly potent piece. Every design is uniquely beautiful because they mirror the unique beauty of the individual that is being projected, but Allison immediately felt renewed and on fire as her new reflection blossomed and was allowed to emerge. yay!

It was such a beautiful meeting of minds, hearts and souls between the three of us in co-creating this together, as I see each design as a co-creative process – me providing the intuitive vision and spiritual insight to reflect the “template” design, Allison providing her unique soul imprint, reflection and courageous vulnerability to transfer the projected imagery via the channeling between us, and James providing his gifted artistry, vision, experience and ability to fine tune both my and Allison’s contributions to bring forth the end result. A  beautiful merging of ingredients and partnering souls creating the perfect recipe for potency!

I see the design process to be like a spiritual coaching session, transformative healing and shamanistic, sacred ritual. And the entire process truly is reflective of the now and working together by embracing our individually unique gifts and inviting others to assist and contribute theirs in order to create a collective tapestry of authentic heart. The result is pure, LOVE MAGICK!

I am sharing the process that took place, feeling that it would be supportive for others, as I see this kind of thing happen a lot (moreso recently). Even in the process of assisting with designs, there can be challenges the designs present for the individual to process since they are mirroring a depth that can sometimes be scary (in a good way). As mentioned, these are not JUST drawings. They are SACRED tattoo designs that have healing magick and I’ve seen how what one’s soul transfers to me, even through semi-conscious transference, can sometimes take a while for the conscious to embrace. This can present shifts to the designs with tweaks, major changes, or simply time to sit with, meditate, and digest in order to come to realize it IS exactly what was desired, but was scary or sitting behind the veil awaiting full conscious embrace.

Allison’s tattoo – check out the cool floating effect – gorgeous!!!

After four tattoo inking sessions, Allison’s Sacred Scarab Goddess Tattoo Design is reaching completion. She only has one more half hour session to just fine tune some of the colors/shading. It has been so amazingly cool to be able to be there from start to finish in this process, as usually my clients are from around the world. So this was the first time I was able to actually be there in person to see the design I helped to co-create, come to life in the flesh!! I love to see the final results of the designs I create and encourage people to send them in so I can celebrate with them, the birthing of this beautiful leg of their journey, as well as will use them in an upcoming edition of my book.

I shared the story, the images and the process in hope that it will be insightful and supportive to those on this path of creating sacred body art.

My designs are meant to be templates created in black and white (pencil) and then it is up to you if you desire colors and to relate that to your tattoo artist to find the perfect ones that work for you, as well as to add things like the drop shadow James did. Some tattoo artists will add their own unique flair and fine tuning to the designs I provide, depending on their visions, as well as may adjust sizing if needed (which is easy).

My work is in the spiritual process, sacred symbolism, manifesting the abstract visions/essence into form and to help pinpoint the energies most supportive (including, if desired, the placement) through an encoded creation of sacred body art. It’s a very involved process.

If you are interested in having me assist with the co-creation of your own personal sacred tattoo design I provide both stand-alone consultations via email or design consultations to create the perfect custom tattoo reflective of you.
