Awaken the Free Spirit in You
Uh huh… 😉
A free spirit remembers their innate and sovereign free will and exercises it.
Free spirits are inspired by life itself and find wonder and meaning around every corner.
Free spirits reflect how we can awaken the same within us that we admire in them.
Trust in yourself and don’t be afraid to look any certain way to others. When you are concerned with what others may think, you stop living an authentic life and little by little suck the passion of your heart dry.
If you allow others to dictate your life, no one else but you is responsible for giving away that power.
When you live by your beliefs and passions, you will find life to be far richer than imagined. You’ll start attracting other free spirits to play with.
And, you’ll also start helping to awaken the free spirit in others, just like you, who are afraid to “be”.
Running With My Dreams – A Little Nudge From White Horse
I’m still on my Alaska journey and savoring every moment especially since it’s nearing end, which I don’t want to think about. All there is, is right now.
One thing I have been reflecting on while here are my dreams and heart callings, daring myself to dream bigger in these great and majestic outdoors, stretch my imagination, and explore all the rich possibilities I have but to choose.
I can’t remember who said this, but these words ring true to me:
If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough.
So bigger I go into digging deeper in my heart for the dream/s that call for me to fulfill them – no limitations! And if it isn’t scary enough, then likely not the leap I would like to take, as I’m ready for big growth and challenge.
I spent much of today’s low-key activities exploring further in my mind and heart. And upon arriving back to the house, decided to take a walk on the land here and came to an opening where the friend you see here was.
He was facing the other direction, but as I spoke to him, he immediately turned and stood perfectly straight, solid, and aligned with me, listening, tuning in, and alert – like we were perfect mirrors of each other.
Then he relaxed into a gentle gaze and almost became sleepy-eyed, but more like completely vulnerable and soft (as you see in the photos too, along with his ear positioning shifting into his relaxed state as well). He likely would have stayed there as long as I wanted, but I finally made my way back to the house, waving goodbye and thanking him for the connection.
Horses have always been meaningful for me and coming upon this single white horse I knew also had symbolism for me.
For quite some time when I was a little girl I had a white horse spirit guide that was with me and I was enraptured with Unicorns and Pegasus. Over time the horse changed sometimes to a golden chestnut, but for the longest time in my life it’s always been large black horses that drew me.
Until recently, when white horses have been showing up again in the last couple of months.
I mentioned before the white horse and “unicorn in disguise”, Tareena at Epona Rise had come to me. And this horse today reminded me of Tareena. But again, the white. And all while I’ve been exploring my heart’s desires and dreams more deeply the last couple of months and not just all of the possibilities, but also whatever fears or insecurities may be around jumping on the train full steam ahead.
Horses symbolize strength, freedom of expression, grace, power, life energy, vitality, passionate desires, a driving force in your life to express your authenticity or what you thrive for, being in harmony with your primitive desires, and balancing those instincts with the more discerning tamed parts. They are transparent reflections of you and everything deep or hidden you hold within.
White horses bring illumination, developing awareness of your instincts and intuition, resurrection (interesting that I spent a lot of time on “Resurrection Bay” here in Alaska – more on that when I return), bringing things to light, seeing with clarity, and are messengers of rebirth.
White is also about purity, innocence, wholeness, completion of a cycle in your life, awakening, elevating your spiritual aspirations, openness, growth, purification, creativity, moving in a new direction, new beginnings, fresh slates, and a blank canvas awaiting creative impetus.
The cool thing about white is that you can’t hide behind it since it amplifies everything in its way. 😉 YAY!
I’m feeling close to running with my new dreams and I look forward to what my heart chooses to follow next, but you can be assured it will be big (well at least big for me) and it will take me into uncharted waters, calling forth facing all things head on with trust and love only.
Time to join my horse friend that was always with me as a little girl and embrace the wind through my hair and charge mightily forward with each grounding foot that will beat to the new rhythm of my own drum.
Exciting and scary all at once! Yay!
As my other friend, Mr. Willy Wonka, shares:
“The suspense is terrible…I hope it lasts” 😉
And like Mr. Wonka, I also believe “anything you want to, do it….Wanta change the world? There’s nothing to it.”
We simply have to make a choice, commit to it full heart and soul, and then take a step forward. The rest will start to fall into place and begin to materialize.
I’m ready to release any fears and all of my “past”. This is a new moment to create with full awareness of all that I am and all that is pure of my heart. I am not afraid to make a choice, knowing I have the power to continue choosing anew. I will not live a life half lived.
Thank you Mr. Wonka and thank you my white horse friend for the nudges you each reflect.

A Special Message for Caregivers
A great post with helpful insights for people in caregiver roles or who find themselves always giving, trying to heal or change others.
It goes wonderfully with my post on responsibilities: http://taniamarie.com/2014/07/30/responsibilities-when-does-peace-of-mind-come/.
Synchronously, before I posted yesterday’s article, I had actually written a different one that touched on “now relationships” and some of the exact key points Laura brought up, but then I discarded it. I love how connected we are and since she and I are always chiming in, I can see what led me to let it go in to the ethers.
It was like tuning into one channel, but then sensing it was covered, so then I jumped on another collective channel and yesterday’s “You Complete You” came through.
Thank you Laura for a great post, as there are SO many people I know that could benefit from this.
You Complete You
When you truly give up trying to be whole through others, you end up receiving what you always wanted from others. ~Shakti Gawain
Do you find yourself looking for someone or something to complete you and never feel that you can be happy until you have that perfect partner, friend, job, or thing?
Or do you find yourself content and fulfilled whether on your own or not, or in any given situation?
So many of us have spent a good portion of our lives looking for these puzzle pieces to a puzzle that never was missing a piece to begin with.
You are already capable of being whole in the here and now, as you already are, but simply forgot.
Be the love you seek. Be the joy you desire. Be the peace you crave. Be the wholeness you are looking for.
Yes, we’ve heard it all before…self-love is key to fulfilling relationships and experiences. And yet many of us still keep searching….
Expecting love from others is setting yourself up for disappointment. Expectations of any sort create disappointment.
And, you’ll always attract people and things that reflect something to help remind you of your wholeness – person or thing, or not.
When you can love yourself enough to hold your own light AND darkness, then you can do the same for others and you come to a point of being able to extend radical compassion to everyone you encounter and relate with, especially yourself.
If you empower others with being the source of your needs, desires, and fulfillment, then you will never get anywhere, as humans are fallible and each has their own experiences to go through. So you end up choosing to be in whatever state they are in, rather than choosing your own.
It is your responsibility to be responsible about your life. When you displace power to others to be your source for anything or everything, it becomes easy to place blame elsewhere or find excuses and scapegoats for embracing your own growth.
If you give someone that kind of power over you, who really is responsible for that?
Relationships are powerful growth facilitators, but the key is in continuing to develop your own individuality, independence, and sense of self during the process of relating, learning, and loving. Your personal growth never ceases to be important and it isn’t just for yourself that you do this, but for the greater good, as well as the beauty and grace of your relationships with others.
Cultivating and nurturing your own passions, having some alone time, and time with friends outside of your relationship, really enhances the relationship. When you complete you, you’re in for a truly amazing union with another, as then you are purely there to enjoy each other and in so doing, enhance the quality of the companion you’ve attracted (or will attract) and the time and/or life you share with them. You can shift things instantly within your current relationship as well, the minute you start pointing the power back to yourself and being your own source.
And, when you stop trying to heal and “fix” others, which really is a subconscious cry to heal yourself, you will also start creating things you want more rapidly and come to experience greater and enduring quality of life because you are healing the source, rather than a reflection of it – efficiency and effectiveness at its best.
Since we attract reflections of ourselves in others, as you complete you, the people you attract will start reflecting more of what you always hoped for because you no longer displace your power and now walk in the grace of those things yourself.
Life is a Journey of Evolving Consciousness
“Life is fundamentally a journey of consciousness, a journey of growing awareness.”
“… consciousness is an ever-unfolding, deepening, and expanding process with no end point. We are infinite and complex beings, and our human journey involves not just a spiritual awakening, but the development of all levels of our being – spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical – and the integration of all these aspects into a healthy and balanced daily life.”
Divine Mother & Creator “Web of Life” Mandala – Sacred Tattoo Design
I was so excited and grateful to work on this sacred tattoo design in between my journeys to Bimini and Alaska. I finished it right before leaving on my current vacation actually – a great send off!
I always marvel at the timing of designs and how they are always infused by all that is going on individually with my clients, me personally, and the collective energy at large.
This design also spoke loudly to a personal Mandala wanting to channel through, although this one will be worn over my beautiful client’s Heart Chakra on her back.
I find myself continuing to stare at it and being drawn in deeper with its layered motion. It feels so alive and fluid with movement and really powerful, yet in a divine feminine way. And it’s no wonder, as my client so beautifully walks in this energy.
I keep seeing more in it as I look at it and I’m sure many of you will too.
This wove itself into a Divine Mother and Creator Mandala, but rich with layers of symbolism and a little Celtic flair.
Here’s a little bit about what is in the design:
I wanted it to have an organic and vibrantly alive feeling, even though sacred geometry speaks through as well with the Mandala, as if it is fluid, moving, emanating, creating and weaving itself – soft and feminine, yet strong and powerful.
At center is the Triskelion. It felt important and so beautifully created the focal center, anchoring point to the design flow.
I love the multi-layered symbolism in this symbol, which provides depth to the design, but ultimately reflecting the depth of my client.
Its symbolism includes: action, cycles, progress, revolution, moving forward, spirit – mind – body, mother – father – child, father – son – holy ghost, past – present – future, power – intellect – love, creator – destroyer – sustainer, creation – preservation – destruction, the otherworld – the mortal world – the celestial world, the trinity, mystery, feminine, intuition, subtleness, subconscious, spirituality, illumination, hidden desire, personal growth, human development, and spiritual expansion.
During the process I kept getting a lot around the number three and that Trinity energy for her, which you also see in the Triple Motherhood Knot that were woven in, in three areas. These are the three heart entwined symbols bottom, left and right. It’s stylized to symbolize a parent and child embracing to convey the enduring bond between them. This symbol looks like 2 hearts created out of knots – one lower than the other but intertwined eternally. And my client truly is the epitome of that loving mothering energy that is not only so important to her, but truly is her strength and gift to share in service, in and out of the home.
The number three also speaks of the Triple Goddess and Maiden, Mother, Crone energy. This felt significant and honoring, not just for aspects of her and the cycles in her life that they represent, but also represent her and the two women dear in her life that have recently transitioned – her great aunt and grandmother.
Three also from Tarot, is the Empress card, which really spoke to me for my client with her symbolism of the archetype of feminine power, mother, healing, water energy, creation, creativity, abundance, fruitfulness, fertility, intuition, emotions, passions, prosperity, productive action, nurturing, love, harmony, union, sensuality, continual growth, all things beautiful and lush, and Mother Earth.
Then the number six also came through, which you see in the white parts of the design.
But first let’s back up. There is an organic lotus underneath the layered design, that peaks through the other parts. And layered over it is a stylized Tree of Life that reaches above and below in mirror with its limbs and branches, as well as extend out and around to create a six petaled temple-like design that draws the limbs together at the top of each sacred temple.
The number six is also significant and felt meaningful for her. It represents harmony, balance, soulful integration, perfect union, communication, sincerity, love, truth, enlightenment, naturally revealing solutions for us in a calm, unfolding manner, delicate diplomacy in sensitive matters, reliability, lighting our path in areas we require spiritual and mental balance, and encourages compassion and forgiveness. It is connected with the very powerful Hexagon and Merkaba.
There is then an interlaced eight pointed Octagonal flower that weaves through the petals of the lotus and the limbs/temples of the tree. The symbolism of eight has to do with continuation, repetition, cycles, inner strength, patience, wisdom, gentle power, faith in your abilities, courage, protection, energy, vitality, good health, healing, empowerment, endurance, success, manifestation, prosperity, balances material and spiritual worlds. Octagons symbolize regeneration, totality, infinity, rebirth, transition, and are considered good luck for the Chinese. It represents a Bagua, which is a Feng Shui tool for flow of Chi, but also represents the constantly changing forces and natural phenomena of the Universe as described in the I-Ching.
I then carried through more spirals to frame each of the six points and tie in with the Triskelion at center, but also to move the energy in all directions and keep it fluid, while also balancing masculine points with feminine curves.
The Lotus itself is a powerful and ancient image symbolizes harmony, spiritual illumination and unlimited potential. The lotus is a type of water lily which rises from the sludge of muddy waters and opens into a beautiful flower. It is often used as a mandala, or circular symbol, but any way you use the Lotus in a spiritual practice, it will provide a resonant field that reinforces the concept of resurrection. Human mistakes and challenges are the fertilizer for brilliance and awakened creation as the Lotus shows us. Born in the murkiest of ponds, Lotus still emerges pure. Use the Lotus as a reminder that “this, too, shall pass.” Be assured that all fertilizer nurtures a beautiful new life. In the greater world, Lotus is a peaceful cosmic beacon for forgiveness, gratitude and compassion to prevail where the sludge of conflict has resided. Using this symbol on water invites a balance between humility and pride.
The Tree of Life captures the essence of Celtic belief in the interconnectedness of all things – earth and sky, plants, animals and all beings – in the cycle of life. This Tree of Life depicts a tree, leaves opening in the new Spiral cycles of life into eternal journeys that lead to abundant of heart expansion in the process. The trees roots grounding in the earth and the limbs reaching in different directions of where the path will lead on the continuous journey of enlightened awareness. These roots grounding you with the Earth and the relationships and aspects of life you hold dear, keeping you balanced, as well as nurtured in giving and receiving.
I curved some of the inner branches for a feminine flow, also to double as the center of the Lotus, and to create a hint of loose, open heart shapes – the source of love in giving and receiving.
There is an abstract suggestion of almost a Spider-like quality to these limbs, which I noticed after the design was done. I found this very interesting, as I began the channeling by asking my client’s Animal Spirit Guide – the Spider – to help guide me in weaving this creation for her.
The Spider symbolizes strong feminine energy, creativity, life spirit, weaver of destiny, patience, receptivity, tuning into life’s ebbs and flows, integrating shadow self, spirit of creation, and in many traditions is the totem symbol of the Mother. For example, in Ancient Egypt the Spider represents the Goddess of the Divine Mother, Neith and in some Native American Indian tribes she is the symbol for the Creator of the World.
And so I see this as the “web of life” that my client is weaving from the source of her heart and soul. It feels that the Spider has guided this creation and that this is her Magickal Web Mandala of all things dear to my client, all things to support her, and all things that she will continue to weave, create, share, nurture, and contribute through the love of her heart.

Dragonfly symbolism
This is a fantastic blog by Jennifer Moore on the magickal symbolism of dragonflies. Yesterday, the first full day actually in Alaska, as our journey was detoured/delayed a day due to weather, but ultimately energetic callings where I was needed, I was surrounded by giant dragonflies at the lake here.
The photos you see in my share, are of one of the dragonflies, and of the pair that were in a dance, that I rendezvous’d with yesterday.
Upon arrival to the lakeside cabin home for the next few days, I explored the path by the lake to the row boats when dragonfly medicine was all around me.
These beautiful, giant dragonflies with wingspan of 4-5 inches were flying around me on the dock and two seemed to be in a mating dance.
The dragonflies continued to fly at me while out on the row boat as well, while exploring beaver lodges and listening to the haunting loons.
Jennifer’s share so beautifully expounds on these magickal creatures that are both of the air – symbolizing change – and water – the subconscious, dreaming mind, and mutable nature. When they skitter across the water they demonstrate deeper thoughts surfacing and of our being mindful of our wishes we intend.
One dragonfly I saw seemed to have become water-logged and was stuck on the surface of the water, rather than skittering along, and its wings were unable to lift it up to fly again…so save it I did and off it flew to a tree limb to dry.
These nymph creatures are simply enchanting in every way and everything they are about, as shared in Jennifer’s article, is so perfect in symbolism right now for me.
Last night, the first night here in Talkeetna, as the eerie, but beautiful, calls of the loons echoed across the lake, I dreamed of an adolescent moose I was communicating with on a path in the forest. But that’s a “moose” of another story. 😉
Magick is abound and the creatures of Alaska are making me feel welcome already. I look forward to their continued wisdom and messages.
The Moon & Egypt – A Commemoration of Wholeness
As I was tuning in to the upcoming Full Super Moon in Aquarius on the 10th, I was also reminded of some Egyptian symbolism that I had delved into through integrative personal and collective work while taking my sacred journeys in Egypt and channeling one of the five paintings of my series, In Lak’ech – “Earth”. Likely the Egyptian influences that have trickled in a bit recently, are stemming from the Egyptian pendant I released into the Bimini waters on our retreat week – all that has been released is circulating in new, integrative ways.
But the Moon and Egypt reminded me of something, which has symbolic significance, and so this share stems from that.
It’s not that the literal symbolism is important, but the value lies in what we can take away from these stories to integrate into our lives. Whether myth or not, all stories have symbolic messages for us to decipher and expand through.
As you read the symbolism and brief stories below, see what personal messages speak to you that might be of value.
The Moon has played a predominant role in many societies and ancient cultures throughout history. Her energy is equally powerful to that of her more overt brother, the Sun, yet she works in mysterious and magickal ways.
To the Egyptians she was a symbol of rejuvenation, cyclical renewal, fertility, and growth. The Ancient Egyptians commonly referred to the Moon and the Sun as “the two lights” and interpreted these lights as the eyes of the Sky God, Horus. The left eye representing the Moon and the right eye representing the Sun, while the cycles of the Moon also relating to Horus’ phases of life.
The most predominant myth of the Moon relates its cycles to the battle between Horus and Seth over the inheritance of Osiris. The moment of the Full Moon was equated with the adult Horus declaring his true voice and joy, in victory over Seth, as he assumes control of the sky, rejuvenated.
The Egyptian Lunar Calendar is the most consistently followed calendar throughout the Dynastic times. It determined most regional festivals for the temples and marked periods for making offerings at tombs. While Lunar energy is viewed as feminine energy by the Egyptian culture (and in general), the phases of the Moon are uniquely embodied in the story of Osiris; a deity and important Lunar God closely associated with the different faces of the Moon.
His resurrection was recognized in the Lunar cycles, his body was equated with the Moon, and his dismembered body parts represented the days of the waning Moon.
In other areas of Egypt, his entire life cycle is related to the Lunar cycle, from conception and birth, to murder, dismemberment, and resurrection. Specifically, his dismemberment is mourned during the dark period before the next New Moon, his reappearance celebrated at New Moon, and his restoration commemorated with the Full Moon.
Another God associated with the Moon is the Baboon and Ibis God, Thoth. Thoth who restores the Eye of Osiris, is the wisest of the Egyptian Gods and is known as the God of the Moon, magick, and writing. It is thought that the Ibis has a crescent shaped beak, which creates its link to the Moon. The magickal powers of Thoth were so great that the Egyptians had tales of a sacred “Book of Thoth” that if read, was believed to allow one to become the most powerful magician in the world.
Hence, the Moon has great significance and ties with the Egyptians.
The symbolism of commemorating the restoration of Osiris, the true voice of Horus, and the magick of Thoth on the Full Moon, directly mirrors our own personal journeys to wholeness.
We come into the journey of life at different phases, individual to each, looking to integrate wholeness and get in touch with our inner truths. And as we make the journey, one by one we piece together our own parts and open to a wider, more expansive experience. So that by the time we reach the Full Moon of each phase of our lives, we conclude our journey; the bringing together of those parts symbolically resembling our own restoration.
In honoring the energy of the Full Moon and the Ancient Egyptian commemoration of Osiris, we honor ourselves and the wholeness of our being, as everything is but a mirror of our experience.
The Lunar orb phases represent symbolic perfection of our Universal connection. The New Moon introduces enterprising beginnings and enhances the growth of new endeavors. It also represents the planting of physical “seeds” in the womb of time, which will come to fruition at the Full Moon – a time when the body is inhabited by the Spirit and Illumination takes place.
We have the opportunity to look at everything in life with greater depth and meaning. Everything is connected and everything is reflective for us, providing codes of life for us to interpret and activate once again.
Blessings to you for this Full Moon journey to wholeness.
